Maharashtra governor refers Tiwari's case to SC

Maharashtra Governor K Shankarnarayanan has referred the case of the suspension of state Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari, whose name came up in the Adarsh scam, to the Supreme Court. The governor referred the case to the Supreme Court under Section 17(1) of the Right to Information Act. Tiwari was asked to resign following allegations of his involvement in the Adarsh scam. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had initiated removal procedures against Tiwari.

A Raj Bhavan spokesman told Business Standard, “The governor has sent Tiwari's case to the Supreme Court.” The governor had sent back the state government to seek advice from the judiciary and redraft the proposal but the government had submitted the proposal for Tiwari's removal, along with the judiciary's opinion. The state cabinet decided to remove Tiwari from the information commissioner’s post.
