The state government-appointed World Trade Organisation (WTO) cell has begun analysing data on agricultural, horticultural and fisheries produce expected to be impacted as a result of the new trade regime to which India became a signatory two months back.
The cell was constituted by the Maharashtra government in the wake of the WTO pact being inked by the Union government and has, as a first measure, written to the commissioner of customs for providing data on the quantum of imports and exports of cereals, pulses, cotton seeds, planting material, fruits, vegetable, poultry products, meat, fish and processed food items.
S A Kole, deputy director in the horticulture department, said:
