Transporters called off their three-day-old strike on Saturday night after Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde assured them that the state government would appeal in the Supreme Court in their favour and engage a senior advocate to present their case.

"The transporters have decided to call off the strike after the chief minister's assurance of providing a senior advocate for representing our case in the SC on behalf of the state government," a Vahan Bachao Kriti Samiti leader said.

Nearly 48,000 vehicles went off the road after the Bombay HC refused to allow petrol or diesel run vehicles to ply in Mumbai without converting into CNG.
