Major Electric Bulb Brands Fail Cers Quality Tests

The city-based Consumer Research and Education Society (CERS), on Thursday made public results of tests carried out at its in-house laboratory on 16 brands of electric bulbs.

According to the tests results, bulbs of several companies failed to meet specifications and features advertised.

Releasing the test results at a media briefing, CERC officials said while some brands failed the life test, others failed the lumen test, while some did not abide by labelling guidelines as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

CERS tested 14 brands of 60 watt (230 V) pear shaped and two brands of 60 W (250 V) mushroom shaped general lighting service bulbs.

 

The brands tested in the 230 V category included Anchor, Bajaj, Cema Super, Crompton, Diamond, ECE Amarjyoti, GE Crystal Clear, Khaitan, Mysore, Osram Classic Clear, Philips Classitone Clear, Surya Super, Sylvania Laxman and Wipro.

In the 250 V category, Orient and Prakash Lites were tested.
