The domestic industry is 'feeling good.' But to make this feeling sustainable, central and state governments should take measures to make the industry globally competitive, said Amit Goradia, chairman, Ficci Gujarat council.

"Gujarat needs to sharpen its labour force skills and link wages into productivity; a mechanism needs to be created for speedy exit for sick and unviable units and labour laws needs to be addressed immediately," said Goradia.

"There is a need to introduce a uniform national value added taxation system to create 'One India Market' and the power sector efficiencies needs to be improved, both in terms of charges and supply," he added.

He was addressing at the Ficci's state council meet in Ahmedabad on Friday. The meet was organised to discuss about opportunities for the accelerated development of the state.

He said that the state's industries must become, strategic instead of opportunistic and make clear choices in terms of competitive advantage along with embracing the imperative of upgrading. "The industries should invest in upgrading human capital and technological resources."
