Mamata offers bouquet of services to north Bengal

Railway minister Mamata Banerjee today offered a slew of services for north Bengal including new trains, an axel factory and an escalator at New Jalpaiguri railway station.

The Railway minister said she has plans to make North Bengal another Switzerland and was trying her best to improve the communication.

Addressing a meeting at New Jalpaiguri Banerjee said she was against dividing the state into north and south and added that she was sincerely trying to join north and south by the bridge of development within her limitation as a Railway minister.

Banerjee said she would visit Darjeeling shortly and speak to the people there and would chalk out a plan for development and further improve the existing toy train, the major tourist attraction.

 

Rs 300 crore had already been sanctioned for the railway axel factory at New Jalpaiguri. The new services also include a DEMU car-shed, and four multi-functional complexes.

Railways was also contemplating on having a partnership with SAIL to accelerate the project which would generate employment for few thousand youths, Banerjee said, adding 100 acres of land has been identified for the project.
