Manali flood: One killed road, bridges, huts washed away

Heavy rain in and around Manali washed away stretches of the Manali-Rohtang pass road on Saturday, besides washing away two bridges and killing one person, the local police said.

Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the busy 51 km long Manali-Rohtang pass road and it could take several days before the road and bridges are repaired by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Reports said around 80 huts of the BRO workers have also been washed away in the area.

Dhundi, located 20 km from Manali, expereinced a cloudburst washing away long stretches of the road, along with two bridges. The flashfloods washed away a car killing one person, police said.

 

The estimated loss to infrastructure is around Rs 7 crore.

The BRO have started reparing the road and installing the bailey bridges.
