Maneka Gandhi, who took oath today as a Lok Sabha member along with son Varun, said the occasion reminded her of her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi and husband Sanjay doing so together in 1980.
"Yes, I was reminded of the occasion," Maneka (53) told reporters in reply to a question.
Asked how it felt when the mother-son duo took oath, she said, "I felt very good."
Maneka has been elected from Aaonla, while Varun has won from Pilibhit, a seat earlier represented by his mother in the Lok Sabha.
She said her son Varun (29), a first-time MP, would prove to be a "very good parliamentarian".
Varun was arrested under the NSA for allegedly making "inflammatory and communal speech" during the Lok Sabha campaign.
