Ahmedabad-based Maps (India) Ltd, a biotechnology company producing enzymes and micro-organisms, is all set to enter into production of high grade enzymes for the food industry as well as for animal feed industry.

Talking to Business Standard, Piyush Palkhiwala, chairman of Maps, said, "We are foraying into production of high grade enzymes with an initial production capacity of 200 kg per month. The company will further raise the capacity in phases depending upon the demand and supply situation."

The company will set up a production unit with smaller capacity as in the case of high grade enzymes it's not the volume that matters but value, said Palkhiwala.

High grade enzymes are basically used by the feed and food products manufacturing industry. It plans to invest Rs 10 crore for setting up the same.

The company produces 600 tonnes of low grade enzymes used in textiles and the leather industry.

"We now plan to expand its capacity into high value and low volume products like high grade enzymes," said Palkhiwala. It plans to start the unit within the next six months.

The company has its presence in 20 countries and has 60-plus products in its portfolio supplying to over 10 different industries.
