The Mauritius government has welcomed today's Supreme Court judgement upholding a government notification to exempt companies doing business in India from paying tax if they were registered in Mauritius. The Delhi High Court had earlier quashed the CBDT notification. |
"I am pleased at this favourable judicial outcome, which reaffirms the benefits of the Double Tax Avoidance Treaty between India and Mauritius," minister of economic development, financial services and corporate affairs in the Mauritian government, Sushil K C Khushiram said in an official statement here. |
He said the uncertainties regarding the residence status of Mauritian registered companies under the Treaty had now been "dispelled" and that the outlook for development of business ties was "highly encouraging." |
