With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly poll scheduled early next year, chief minister Mayawati on Tuesday sent the district magistrates (DMs) and their subordinate magistrates village-bound to address the grievances of its majority people.
Besides, the officials have been asked to apprise the rural populace of the development and welfare schemes run by the state government.
The DMs have been directed to visit one village every week, while the sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) have been directed to visit five villages every month to lend ear to the people.
The SDMs will have to hold open meetings in villages to hear the grievances of people and resolve them on merit. They will ensure video-recording of these proceedings, which the government feels would be a forceful initiative against corruption.
Cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh held the state-level review meeting of divisional commissioners and DMs here. Relaying the chief minister’s message, Singh asked the officials to ensure strict implementation of the UP Janhit Guarantee Act implemented this year.
The Act prescribes a stipulated time frame for citizens’ work and monetary penalty for government employees, if they fail to deliver the services on time. At present, the government has notified 13 important services under the Act, which are mostly related to the poor and deprived sections of society.
Mayawati has directed that transport related services be also included under the purview of the Act.
