The election of new Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (Greater Bangalore City Corporation) will be held on April 23,Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said today. BJP gained majority in the recent BBMP elections, which paved way for hoisting the saffron flag for the first time in the Mahanagara Palike.
Gearing up for the upcoming Gram Panchayat polls scheduled to be held next month, Yeddyurappa told reporters here that the BJP Legislature Party will meet in Bangalore on April 15 to chalkout strategy for the party's victory.
Referring to the power crisis in the state, Yeddyurappa told reporters that he would shortly meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde urging them to ensure adequate power supply. Within May 15 the state will get 600 Mw power from Udupi and 250 Mw from Raichur power plant, he said.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader L K Advani today hailed the party's victory in the city corporation elections. “People have reposed faith on the BJP government in the state for the development works initiated by it," Advani told reporters.
With this the BJP has scored victory in the assembly elections, assembly bypolls and also in civic elections in Bangalore, Advani, who was on his way to Bagalkot to attend the Veerashaiva conference being held at Shivayogi mandir, said.
