The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today said it will complete its Commonwealth Games-related works before the 2010 event and sought to blame the non-issuance of No-Objection Certificates by Delhi government officials for the delay in some of the projects.

Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain, Leader of the House Subhash Arya, MCD Standing Committee Chairman R K Singhal and Leader of Opposition J K Sharma inspected three projects — road underbridge and bus parking sites around Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium and streetscaping in Paharganj — along with the media.

Though only about 30 per cent of the work has been completed so far at these sites, the Mayor dubbed the progress of work as "satisfactory". "We are confident of completing all projects before the Games," he said.

J K Sharma, however, said the corporation has "failed" in timely execution of certain Games projects, including those related to multi-level parking sites like the one in Kamla Nagar.

"If they cannot complete the formalities for starting the work in two years' time, how they will complete the projects in one year?"

But he expressed satisfaction over the "progress" of the work at the three sites. He sought to counter the ruling BJP's charge that Delhi government is delaying allocation of funds.

Singhal said the only bottleneck the MCD was facing was with regard to issuance of NoCs by the Delhi government. "The babus are delaying NoCs. I have personally met the Chief Secretary and other top officials," he said.
