The CPI(M) today "cautioned" the government against any increase in the prices of foodgrains for BPL and APL categories, as recommended by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

The recommendations in the CCEA note on "prudent food management" by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution System is a "serious assault" on the PDS, food security and food self sufficiency, CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement on Sunday.

It is a clear violation of the assurances made on this issue in the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA, it said.

Meanwhile, Left leaders today said there was no change in their stance on the proposed Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill. CPI(M) Politburo member and CITU president MK Pandhe said the party would continue to oppose it.
