Meet on dairy policies held

The International Dairy Federation's Standing Committee on Dairy Policies and Economics met for the first time in India on Sunday at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand.
 
The meeting was hosted by the Indian National Committee of the International Dairy Federation and witnessed participation from United Kingdom, France, Poland, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, China, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Australia, Norway, Switzerland and India.
 
This committee meets regularly to analyse the developments in the dairy industry worldwide and project future trends.
 
The meeting was followed by presentations and discussions on the theme Dairying "� Its Impact On The Environment, which was chaired by Amrita Patel, chairman, NDDB. Presentations were made by Rudolf Schmidt, head of milk department, German Farmers Union, and Jim Begg, president of IDF on the topic "� The Link Between Climate Change and Dairy.
 
The NDDB chairman said it was clear that they had reached a point when it cannot be "business as usual" and as a responsible industry it was necessary to assess critically all the interventions required to be made from production to processing and marketing and international trade.
