Mineral output down 6% at Rs 13,658 cr in Sep

The value of mineral production in India dipped by 5.64% to Rs 13,658 crore in September this year, the Mines Ministry said today.

"The mineral sector has shown a negative growth of 5.64% during September as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic and minor minerals) in the country during September, 2011, was Rs 13,658 crore," it said in an official statement.

The contribution of petroleum (crude) to total mineral output in value terms was the highest during the month, at Rs 5,626 crore, or 41% of the total production. This was followed by coal (Rs 2,800 crore), iron ore (Rs 2,490 crore), natural gas (Rs 1,452 crore), lignite (Rs 311 crore) and limestone (Rs 267 crore).

 

"These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in September, 2011," it added.

Quantity-wise, production of coal stood at 299 lakh tonne, lignite at 26 lakh tonne, natural gas at 3,879 million cubic metres, petroleum (crude) at 31 lakh tonne, bauxite at 9.9 lakh tonne and chromite at 2.5 lakh tonne in September, 2011.
