Orissa steel and mines department has shown active interest for restoration of online vehicle registration system on its website orissaminerals.gov.in, which has been lying defunct since its inception on December 2 last year due to lack of data synchronisation with the transport department.

The synchronisation process could not take place between the two departments as the National Informatics Centre (NIC) had raised questions about sharing online data amid inadequate cyber security.

Hence, the mines department has decided to shift the web server from its office premises to the State Data Centre for security reasons and has written to the state Transport and Commerce department for cooperation.

“We have been facing tremendous amount of hardships after the severing of the web service link owing to which the process has come to a standstill. Unless this issue is sorted and a solution is found out it is unlikely that the registration process can be carried out smoothly,” mines secretary Manoj Ahuja said in a letter addressed to the state transport secretary.

So far, 4,536 applications for e-registration of the vehicles has been received on the website but only two have been processed as the vehicle details could not be tallied with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) database.
