Union minister of state for home affairs S Raghupathy has ordered an inquiry into the Daman Bridge collapse during the recent floods. |
"A two-pronged inquiry will be conducted into the mishap "" one by the administration at the local level and the other at the central government level. We are seeking technical advice on whether the bridge can be used by pedestrians and small vehicles by placing iron structures in the collapsed portion," said Raghupathy, who was on a visit to Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli to take stock of the damage caused by floods. |
Talking to mediapersons, Raghupathy said, "The central government has allotted Rs 50 lakh on a priority basis to both the Union Territories from the Natural Calamity Fund. |
"This money is being used for distribution of cash assistance. Fishermen have been affected by the floods. We will try to provide assistance to them." |
"The time for payment of electricity bills of various affected industries in Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli has been extended. They will also be allowed to pay the bills in two or three installments. We have issued instructions to expedite settlement of insurance claims," said Raghupathy. |
