Mmtc Sees 34 Pc Growth In Vizag Operations

The Vizag regional office of MMTC, a Government of India trading house, has registered 33.7 per cent growth in turnover during the just-ended fiscal, compared to that in the preceding year. This office achieved a turnover of Rs 899 crore (expecting profits of Rs 20 crore) as against Rs 672 crore in the previous year, sources said.

Significantly, this office posted a 166 per cent growth in foodgrains exports and emerged the largest exporter of agro products from East Coast of India.

During the year 2002-03, MMTC Vizag office exported Rs 322 crore worth of 2.43 lakh tonnes of rice and 3.69 lakh tonnes of wheat through Vizag and Kakinada ports, whereas during the previous year it exported only Rs121 crore worth of rice and wheat.

 

MMTC exported Rs 392 crore worth 40.72 lakh tonnes of iron ore and Rs.22 62 crore worth Manganese ore, the sources said. Gold quantity of 1877.670 kg valuing Rs 99.41 crore was sold during 2002-2003 as against 2181.401 kg valuing Rs 96.46 crore sold during the last fiscal. In view of high prices, imports/purchases remained suspended during the last couple of months, sources revealed.

During the fiscal, this office started imports and marketed the aluminium and Lam coke for the first time and achieved a turnover of Rs 22.17 crore on these two products.
