Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today hit back at the state Congress, which met President Pratibha Patil and sought a CBI probe into alleged corruption to the tune of Rs one lakh crore during his tenure.
Modi trashed the charges, dubbing them as “irresponsible” and “full of lies”.
The Gujarat Congress leadership had today met the President and submitted a memorandum with “documentary evidences” that said “the government and the chief minister have committed corruption in several projects. Government properties have been allotted to some leading industrialists, causing the exchequer huge losses”.
The Congress claimed that K Raheja Corporation, DLF, TCS, ICICI Bank, Satyam Computer, Torrent Power and Puri Foundation had been allotted land at meagre prices without any auction.
According to the memorandum submitted to the President, K Raheja Corporation was allotted land at Rs 470 per sq m, while market rate was Rs 30,000 per sq m. Similarly, DLF was given land for Rs 5,000, TCS for Rs 1,100, ICICI Bank for Rs 1,100, Satyam for Rs 1,100, Torrent Power for Rs 6,000 and Puri Foundation for Re 1, while the market rate remained Rs Rs 30,000 a sq m.
The memorandum, however, did not mention Modi personally benefitted from these allotments.
