More funds for north-east region in Budget

The Development of North Eastern Region got an enhanced allocation of Rs 1,475 crore in the Union Budget for 2009-10, an increase of Rs 4.47 crore over last year.     

The Ministry has been provided Rs 544.50 crore to implement schemes under North Eastern Council while another Rs 700 crore has been announced under grants from central pool of resources.     

In the Budget, the special package for Bodoland Territorial Council has been reduced to Rs 50 crore from last year's Rs 100 crore.     

In his Budget speech, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee also mentioned about the Assam Gas Cracker project which is being executed at a cost of Rs 5,461 crore.     

 

Mukherjee said the capital subsidy of Rs 2,138 crore for the project is to be provided by the Central Government.     

He said the outlay for this project is being stepped up suitably.
