More measures on rupee, CAD: Mayaram

Says no plan for sovereign bond issuance

The finance minister P Chidambaram is likely to announce more measures to help the battered rupee and the widening current account gap, Arvind Mayaram, economic affairs secretary Arvind Mayaram said today.

"Wait till the end of the week...The finance minister will be talking about this later" Mayaram said when asked about the likely steps that the government will take to address exchange rate volatility.

He also said, there is no plan for a sovreign bond issuance.

"Govt has not planned any sovereign bond, don't know why media has the feeling there will be a sovereign bond," he said after attending the Reserve Bank of India's board meeting.
 

Earlier, RBI governor D Subbarao also expressed reservation for such bond issue.
