The government needs more time to prepare a roadmap for its disinvestment programme, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said today defending the limited mention about the same in the Budget.

"There were irrational expectations from the Budget... We seem to have created an unnecessary hype around the Budget," Ahluwalia said while noting that the Budget was very clear on a number of issues, including measures for economic growth, infrastructure sector and public-private partnership.

Speaking at a post-Budget interaction hosted by private TV channel CNBC-TV18, Ahluwalia said that the policy framework should not be read only in the Budget speech and the government has been making its intentions very clear.

"Probably, they need more time to prepare the roadmap," he said when asked about the absence of a disinvestment programme roadmap in the Budget.

"The Department of Disinvestment is in the Finance Ministry, but it works on disinvestment of companies that are with other ministries," he said, adding that the government probably did not want to put pressure on the timing front by putting every thing in the Budget.
