The Kerala government has hiked the motor vehicle taxes. The hike is expected to generate an additional income of over Rs five crore annually.

For private motor vehicles with less than six seats, the tax will be Rs 200 per seat as against the prevailing Rs 130 per seat for petrol vehicles and Rs 140 for diesel vehicles.

The tax for vehicles with six to 10 seats has been increased from Rs 70 to Rs 100 per seat and for those above 10 seats, it has been hiked from Rs 130 per seat to Rs 200.

However, two- and three-wheelers as well as Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses and private passenger buses have been exempted from the hike.
