MP claims record increase in revenue from mandis

Despite privatisation of mandis and permission to purchase food grains outside mandis, the state government claimed record increase in revenue and arrival of foodgrains during the year 2005-06.
 
"Our total revenue touched a record high of Rs 326 crore in the form of mandi fees as against Rs 278 crore registered last year and record arrival of 150 lakh metric tonnes foodgrains against 135 lakh tones registered last year," a government spokesperson told Business standard.
 
Indore divisions posted maximum revenue (as mandi fee) of Rs 74.58 crore followed by Bhopal at 73.93 crore. Ujjain registered Rs 66.91 crore, Gwalior Rs 37.89 crore, Sagar Rs 29.27 crore, Jabalpur Rs. 31.67 crore and Rewa division recorded Rs. 11.78 crore revenue.
 
As regards arrival of foodgrains, the spokesperson said 34.53 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains arrived in Bhopal division mandis, 31.99 lakh metric tones in Indore mandis, 30.06 lakh metric tonnes in Ujjain, 17.17 lakh metric tones in Gwalior mandis, 15 lakh metric tonnes in Sagar, 17.88 lakh metric tonnes in Jabalpur and 6.32 lakh metric tonnes in Rewa division.
