When treasuries are becoming redundant for their time-consuming processes, the Madhya Pradesh government today launched its online government transactions system named as 'Cyber Treasury' and claimed it is India's first project of its kind.

At present T+3 system prevails in Madhya Pradesh for government transactions that involves a lot of documentation.

The real time tax payment system will pave the way for further e-government initiatives, claimed the state government.

However, there was no clarification as to why the finance department opted for old V-SAT technology when private and government telecom companies in Madhya Pradesh were offering leased lines all over the state at much cheaper rates with round-the-clock connectivity.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh today launched the project by cutting a digital ribbon on the computer. He also handed over an online receipt to an auto dealer of Bhopal.

With this project, the state government claimed, the government transaction will switch over to T+1 system, ie, the government transactions will be cleared on the same day instead of three days. At present SBI Online is the payment gateway and access is restricted to only Internet banking users, later credit card and debit cardholders will also be able to pay.

Cyber Treasury "" a part of its Integrated computerisation project and state finance monitoring systems, the government today claimed it would not only reduce drudgery of government officials to allocate budget to their remote offices at district level but will also reduce the time of paying taxes through treasury challans.
