While the Maharashtra government is promoting the state as an international tourist destination, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is yet to receive a single rupee of the budgeted (sanctioned) Rs7.5 crore this year, even as it enters the last month of the current fiscal.
Secretariat sources reveal that initially finance minister Jayant Patil allocated a Rs 12.5 crore corpus for MTDC. Subsequently an expenditure plan cut of 40 per cent was announced and this was reduced to Rs 7.5 crore.
