Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday accepted the resignation of his confidante Amar Singh from all party posts, including as general secretary, less than two weeks after he formally quit.
After claiming for days he would not accept the resignation of Singh that triggered a crisis in the party, Yadav said he regretted Amar’s decision and that he was “sadly” accepting.
“On January 6 you resigned from all posts of the SP, which I sadly accept,” Yadav said in his brief two-paragraph letter faxed to Amar, who is now in Mumbai.
Shortly after his resignation was accepted, Amar said he was grateful to Yadav and that he would continue to work as his “committed soldier” till he was allowed to do so.
“I am thankful to Mulayam Singh for appreciating my need to take rest considering my poor health....I will always remain a committed soldier of Mulayam Singh to the best of my ability till he allows me to do so,” Amar Singh said.
