Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma today said the government is considering simplification of the investment process in the country and is hammering out a mechanism to improve coordination with state governments on investment-related issues.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the CeraGlass India-2010 exhibition here, Sharma appreciated the state government's plan to implement a single window clearance system to facilitate investment.

He said his ministry was working on a mechanism to enhance coordination between the Centre and state governments to attract capital inflows.

"Simplification of process has always been a main demand from investors, be it Indians or foreigners. The Union government's effort is to simplify the process to attract more and more investment. We are also trying to develop some kind of system to improve coordinate between the Centre and the state governments for investment-related issues," he said.

He stressed on the need to increase manufacturing capacities to strengthen the country's economy. He said the Centre has taken several steps to advance policies in this regard.

Sharma said the government was also looking for good training modules from around the world to impart skillsets to manpower in the country.

"Not only investment, but preparing skilled manpower within the country is my priority. Hence, we are looking for good vocational training modules in different countries. Good modules will be brought to India to prepare skilled human resources for industry in the country," he said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the state government plans to introduce a single window clearance system for investors from January next year.

He said investors' perception of the desert state has changed over the years and Rajasthan offers significant investment opportunities.

"Basic infrastructure needed to set up industries is improving in the state. The state is doing a good progress in every sector, including education, power generation, road and transport, making the state a suitable place for investment," he said.

Later in the day, seminars on 'Advanced Ceramics for Tomorrow' and 'New Technologies in Refractories: Challenges and Opportunities' were also held as part of the four-day exhibition, which is the country's first-ever comprehensive ceramics, glass and applied products trade fair.
