Close to two months after three bomb blasts shook this city, the country’s financial capital, the police’s Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS) has yet to make a breakthrough.

The ATS is yet to establish any links or arrest any organiser of the the July 13 serial blasts, which killed 26 people. Teams have till now visited Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Immediately after the blasts, a section of the Mumbai police informally told reporters that the involvement of the Indian Mujajideen or Lashkar-e-Taiba could not be ruled out. The police had also hinted at a Pakistan-based terrorist group, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI). However, nothing concrete has emerged.

State chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and home minister R R Patil are tight-lipped about the investigations. Both say these were on the right track, but do not specify how or when the ATS would get a breakthrough. Umesh Chandra Sarangi, the additional chief secretary (home) told Business Standard: “The (ATS) and Mumbai police crime branch are investigating and are on track,” without any detail.

A senior police official, who did not want to be identified, said the ATS had been in constant touch with the National Investigation Agency. “An NIA team keeps visiting Mumbai regularly but so far nothing concrete has emerged,” he added.
