Munda sails through confidence vote

Jharkhand’s eighth chief minister Arjun Munda, who formed a coalition government with the support from the BJP, JMM, AJSU and JD(U) on September 11, sailed through today’s vote of confidence in the Assembly with 45 votes.

Thirty MLAs voted against the trust vote while five were absent.

The day-long session of the Assembly to seek the trust vote was held at the auditorium of Sri Krishna Institute of Public Administration as the Assembly premises in the HEC township is under renovation.

Leader of BJP legislature party Raghbar Das moved the confidence motion while the leaders of the coalition partners supported it.

 

A number of opposition leaders while opposing confidence motion criticised the BJP for making alliance again with the JMM after withdrawing its support to JMM on May 24 this year along with JD(U) MLAs.

In the 82-member House including an Anglo-Indian member nominated yesterday in the second cabinet meeting of Arjun Munda government, the BJP, JMM, AJSU, JD(U) and Independents have 18, 18, 5, 2, 2 MLAs respectively.

The maximum sixe the cabinter is stipulated at 12. The chief minister also has to satisfy his coalition partners with favorite portfolios.
