Besides, senior leaders like party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and General Secretary Amar Singh, Dutt has been roped-in to attract more voters in the capital. He will also add glamour to the campaign.
The list of candidates has already been finalised after a meeting of leaders from the party's Delhi unit with Yadav and Singh in Lucknow recently and will be declared soon, a senior party leader said.
"While Mulayamji will campaign separately, both Sanjay Dutt and Amar Singh will canvass together. The details about it will be announced later. They will probably campaign in the capital from April 30 to May 5," the leader said.Out of five contestants, the party is planning to field two Muslims from Chandni Chowk and Northeast seat.
Asked about the choice of candidates, the leader said, "they were selected after a deep scrutiny. Their clean image was the topmost criteria during the selection process".
The Mulayam Singh-led party had contested the 2008 Delhi Assembly polls and got 1.2 per cent of the total votes (about 61 lakh) cast. However, the leader said the party may announce candidates for rest of the two parliamentary seats in a few days "if everything goes well."
