During separate meetings with top leaders of the opposition PML-Q and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan, Musharraf said Pakistan is passing through a difficult phase and it is the government's responsibility to speedily address key challenges facing Pakistan.

Musharraf offered his full support and cooperation to the Pakistan People's Party-led coalition government for political stability and for tackling the worsening economic conditions as well as the menace of terrorism.

Musharraf was quoted by media reports as saying that the government must win the people's confidence to cope with the crises confronting the country. He asked the government to take concrete steps to arrest inflation and ensure political stability.

Referring to demands for his impeachment, Musharraf said "a clash between institutions would seriously damage the country".

Sources told 'Dawn' newspaper that Musharraf insisted he had an "important role to play in the present set-up" and he would continue to do his best in this regard.
