MCC commissioner MR Ravi said a proposal of Tamil Nadu-based MK Aromatics Limited, an arm of the TVS Group, for setting up a plant in Mysore pending before the department of municipal administration would be cleared soon.
He made this statement after a power-point presentation on a Rs 10-crore plant operating since five years on a 4.5 acre landfill site, 45 km off from Chennai. The plant is based on polymer energy technology of Harita NTI Ltd. The energy efficient 27-year life plant produces seven tonnes of oil per day from plastic waste of any type that is collected from Chennai. The residual carbon, which is in dry powder form, is also sold for use.
MK Aromatics’ Mahesh Merchant, who made the presentation explained how the environmental-friendly integrated recycling plastic waste processing system produces oil providing an alternative to incineration and landfill disposal, which has become a major issue in cities like Bangalore.
A proposal had been made to the corportation for setting up a similar plant on a 4-acre landfill site on the outskirts of Mysore by utilising around 80 tonne plastic waste generated in the city. This would be done by putting in place a systematic and hygienic collection system for both industrial and domestic plastic wastes and transporting them in sealed container to the plant for processing to fuel.
