E-governance principal secretary Narasimharaju has held discussions in Mysore about the implementation of Aadhaar registration by LPG beneficiaries before meeting the deadline of February 15.
Discussions were held with Deputy commissioner Rame Gowda and other officials, who briefed the principal secretary of the heavy rush at the present registration centres.
Additional deputy commissioner Naga Nayak told Business Standard that the principal secretary had agreed to set up 10-15 more registration centres.
“We asked for permission to open 10-15 additional registration centres. We may get permission by next week when these will also start functioning,” he said. While consumers have begun to submit documents to their LPG gas supplying agencies, those who have not obtained Aadhaar cards or numbers are crowding the existing dozen Aadhaar registration centres in Mysore to meet the February 15 deadline for Aadhaar-linked cash benefit transfer (CBT) for LPG cylinder.
The announcement that February 15 is the last date for submitting Aadhaar numbers to come under the CBT for LPG cylinders has resulted in unregistered beneficiaries rushing to Aadhaar centres for registration of their names.
As already reported in these columns, only 75 per cent of the district’s LPG consumers have registered under Aadhaar, leaving 25 per cent more of the domestic LPG consumers to register before the deadline of February 15.
While nine Aadhaar registration centres are open at the zonal offices of the Mysore City Corporation, the district has 26 centres, 12 in the city and 13 at the taluk level revenue offices. The dozen centres in the city include nine at the MCC zonal offices, one each at the Town Hall and University Senate Hall.
Besides at the Aadhaar registration centres, heavy rush was also reported at the nationalised banks for opening savings bank accounts required for the transfer of CBT to their accounts before the February 15 deadline.
