Mysore MP sees change in industry scenario

Pratap Simha asks all associations to send in their details like their expectations from the Centre for development of their industries

An indication that a change in industrial scenario will take place in about six months' has been given by Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha in Mysore.

"Expect changes in the industrial scenario in six months' time," he said while addressing members of the Hebbal Industrial Estate Manufactures Association (HIEMA), Mysore Chamber of Commerce & industry, and other industrial associations yesterday.

He asked all associations to send in their details like their expectations from the Centre for development of their industries and how the implementation of those suggestions would benefit the industrial scene. He promised to send in those suggestions to the ministries concerned. Simha said, he was even ready to lead a delegation to meet the minister concerned in case the suggestions were of utmost importance.

 

In response to the outdated labour laws stifling industrial growth, the MP observed: "We have laws that safeguard labour force. But there are no laws that stipulate their conditional output that would help productivity."

Recalling his commitment during the Lok Sabha election campaign that he would interact with the industrial associations once he gets elected, Simha promised to have regular interactions with the HIEMA and other industry associations once every three months to discuss on the action taken report on the suggestions made by the associations. He would meet the HIEMA representatives at their office in the first week of August, he said.

HIEMA president H N Jayanthi said, banking norms should be revamped so that banking facility turns useful to industries. Presently, one of the reasons for recession in India was banking-related issues. He suggested a variable rate of interest for manufacturers and traders, and that it should be lesser for the manufacturing sector.

Stating that the state government should be helpful in setting up industry clusters in Karnataka, HIEMA past president H N Nagaraj observed that presently there were only 6-7 clusters in the state, compared to around 150 in the neighbouring of Tamil Nadu.

Another past president Prabu wanted changes in the Central laws, particularly with regards to electricity regulations and labour laws. HIEMA Secretary C M Subramanian pleaded for fast tracking infrastructure projects.
