The Mysore Industries Association (MIA) has taken up the construction of this ambitious project in the Hebbal Industrial Area on the outskirts of the city. The Centre, for which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation-stone on that day, will be spread over 2,019 sq m area with a built-up area of 2,520 sq m and will have four floors.
The Centre, when completed, will have facility to conduct seminars, workshops and showcase the products of the region on a permanent basis. It will also provide assistance to export promotional activities under one roof.
The Technical Consultancy Services Organization of Karnataka (Tecsok) has prepared the project report and applied to the VTPC for assistance of Rs 6 crore on behalf of the MIA. The MIA has already deposited Rs 35 lakh in the bank out of its share of Rs 1 crore. It is expected to get Rs 1 crore from the state government in order to bridge the gap of promoters' contribution, said MIA President P Vishwanath.
Suresh Kumar Jain, Presently, MIA General Secretary, said, the export market turnover in Mysore was around Rs 7,000 crore per annum and after the inception of the export centre, it is estimated to increase to Rs 17,000 crore in the next five years with a cumulative turnover of Rs 50,000 crore.
Apart from Mysore's traditional products like agarbathi, handicrafts, silk and sandal oil, and after industrialisation of the region filaments, tyres and tubes, rubber, polymer, structural plywood boards, medical equipments, paints, mechanical, pharmaceuticals, paper, animal feed, adhesives, garments, fabrics, telecom products, granite, food products, software, flavours & essence, and enzymes are the major products exported to the world market.
MIA, Jain said, was representing almost 40,000 industries in and around Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts, which have tremendous potential to achieve optimum growth in exports. Forty-five per cent of the export market is generated from small scale industries and it is the major job providing sector when compared to agricultural sector.
Established in 1993 MIA is working for the betterment of the three districts by providing industrial information and assistance by organising seminars, workshops, industrial exhibitions and also inviting entrepreneurs to international and national visits, he added.
