Mysore to have specially trained police personnel

Gearing up to meet any eventuality after the massacre in Mumbai by terrorists, Mysore police will equip itself with a batch of 100 policemen specially trained to meet any eventuality.

Cops between the ages of 25-30 picked up from the police stations in the city will get an intensive training that comprises fitness maintenance, threat and combat management. Training for the first batch of police officers began today at the City Armed Reserve Police grounds here. Handling of AK-47, SLRs and handguns were demonstrated. The vigorous training will last six months every day.

A batch of 30 cops had been trained to manage security during the Dasara celebrations. These 30 police officers will also undergo the vigorous training to be equipped for immediate deployment.

 

Police commissioner S Parashivamurthy told pressmen that the cops were not being given commando training. If required, the Government will be requested to equip the city police with weapons of the latest types.

He said establishments like shopping malls and hotels had been asked to install surveillance cameras to monitor visitors and their movements. A month’s time would be given to them to install CCTVs and other required gadgets.

Security had been tightened further at prestigious places like the Infosys campus, Defence Food Research Laboratory, Central Food Technological Research Institute, the Palace, Chamundeswari Temple atop the Chamundi Hills, and water and power supply installations.

The police were on the high alert and vigil at the entry and exit points of all roads leading to Mysore and the check posts had been stepped up. Public had been advised to report any suspicious activities in their areas andsuch instances immediately to the police, the police chief said.
