N-deal would have been safer with Russia: Left

The Left parties today asked from UPA managers why the government was not trying for a pact like the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement with Russia or France, both of whom have enough supplies of civilian nuclear technology and fuel.
 
At the UPA-Left committee's meeting on the nuclear deal, the Left parties said a deal with Russia would have been safer as there were no Hyde Act-like laws in that country.
 
"The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) safeguard negotiations are required for any international nuclear deal. Why didn't the government negotiate a similar deal with Russia and clinch the IAEA's approval? Why is the government keen to ink such a deal only with the US?", said a top Left leader.
