The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (Nafed) has agreed to supply onions at ‘no profit-no loss’ basis after procurements from different onion-producing states in the country. Chief Minister P K Dhumal said today Nafed had fixed the minimum subsidised price of onion at Rs 40 per kg.
Dhumal said the state government had already appealed to stockists and retailers to ensure availability of onion and other essential commodities at reasonable prices. He added the state food and civil supplies and consumer affairs were conducting raids where complaints of hoarding were being received. The prices of onion fell from Rs 70 to Rs 60 on Thursday in the retail market in Shimla while tomatoes were selling at Rs 35.
