Naidu Sees Early Ls Elections

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told his party MPs earlier this week that he expected the Lok Sabha elections to be advanced and held any time between February and May 2004.

He also told them that in such an eventuality, he would advance Assembly elections and recommend that they be scheduled with the general elections as was done in 1999.

The MPs were in Hyderabad over the weekend to attend an orientation session on the stand the TDP should take on the Tungabhadra water controversy. A discussion on the matter has been scheduled in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

 

This assertion follows reports that some states that are to go to polls along with the general elections will advance them. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are among the states that face Assembly elections in October 2004. BJP sources said the alliance was firm and the TDP would
