Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Najma Heptullah yesterday announced that she was treating as closed the matter of breach of privilege against Union minister for information and broadcasting S Jaipal Reddy in view of the explanation given by him.
The matter arose when members protested against Reddys reported remarks against Heptullah last week when the government faced embarrassment over the bill seeking to restrict non-serious candidates in the presidential and vice-presidential elections.
Heptullah said the minister had sent a letter to her saying that there was no occasion of his making any statement vis-a-vis the house or its presiding officer. I have held the house or chair in high esteem, she quoted Reddy as having written in the letter. She said that in view of the letter, she was treating the matter as closed.
