The National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has reported a net profit of Rs 522.07 crore in 2002-03, which is 27.5 per cent up from previous year's figure of Rs 409.35 crore.
Nalco, the country's leading producer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, has also posted a 14.7 per cent increase in sales turnover at Rs 2,734.32 crore.
According to a release by the company, the export earning has touched a new high of Rs 1,515 crore on account of a substantial increase in the export of alumina from the expanded alumina refinery. The public sector alulinium major also recorded an impressive all-round physical performance during the year.

Production of bauxite and calcinated alumina was the highest ever at 4.77 lakh tonnes and 1.48 lakh tonne, an increase of 35.7 per cent and 33.1 per cent respectively over the previous year.
Production of cast metal was up 5.6 per cent at 2.44 lakh tonnes, even as power generation touched an all-time high of 4,291.6 million units.
On the marketing front, the company sold 1.35 lakh tonne of metal in the domestic market and exported 1.07 lakh tonne, registering altogether an increase of seven per cent, while alumina export increased by a whopping 54.8 per cent to 10.37 lakh tonnes.
The increased metal production is mainly due to addition of 120 pots to the company's existing 480 pots during the year, the release pointed out.
