Coinciding with the third annual convocation of the Nalsar (National Academy of Legal Studies and Research) University of Law, the M K Nambyar SAARCLAW Centre for Advanced Legal Studies was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti at the university premises. |
The centre has been set up with a donation of Rs 50 lakh. It also has a trust comprising Rs 100 lakh, proceeds of which will be used for awards, research projects, etc. It will provide means-cum-merit scholarship to students from Saarc countries for pursuing full-time master's degree at the university. |
According to Ranbir Singh, vice-chancellor of the university, the drafting of the first ever Bill on DNA profiling, being jointly prepared by Nalsar and the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), is in the final stages and would be submitted to the central government soon. |
Besides, the university will also be inaugurating campus-wide Wi-Fi facility that will link all the residential halls, faculty quarters and other administrative and academic blocks. |
The convocation ceremony saw the degree of LLM being conferred on two students and the degree of BA, BL (Honours) being conferred on 53 students. |
According to Singh, there has been 100 per cent placement of the students even before the examinations. |
Among the third batch of students, while six are going abroad for higher studies, 27 have secured placements in law firms, multinational corporations, banks and NGOs with the pay-packets ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh a year. |
Six others have secured judicial clerkships at the Supreme Court of India and the rest are joining litigation and practice. |
