National e-governance meet to focus on electronic services

The 15th national conference on e-governance to be hosted by Orissa from February 9 and 10 will focus on how the government departments can work cohesively to increase use of public information in all aspects of governance.

The national conference to be held at KIIT University is being organized jointly by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and Department of Information Technology, Government of India and state Information Technology department.

This is for the second time, the mega event on e-governance is being held in Orissa. Earlier, the state played host to this meet in 2005.

“The national conference on e-governance aims to provide sharing and learning platform for effective interaction of policy makers, practitioners and industry leaders for deliberations, interactions and identify priorities and recommend an actionable strategy for good governance through use of IT,” said PK Jena, state secretary of IT and Panchayatiraj department.

 

The theme for this year’s conference is “Towards Effective Electronic Service Delivery”.

From the viewpoint of the state, the objective of the two day conference is to impress the participating companies to start operations, small or big, in the state, said an official of the IT department.

Besides, the state is also trying to woo the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) to organize a meet of the Chief Executives of IT firms in Orissa, he added.

Jena said, e-district programme has been launched successfully in the Baripada tehsil of Mayurbhanj district and Berhampur tehsil of Ganjam district on pilot basis.

It may be noted, the detailed project report for implementation of the e-district project in the state has been approved by the Centre and the state is expecting to execute the programme by 2014 after the sanctioning of funds.

Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik will inaugurate the conference which will also be attended by Union minister of state for Communication and IT, Sachin Pilot.

An exhibition showcasing products and services and achievements in the field of e-governance will be on display during the conference.
