The Orissa government is sore over the industries that are not holding regular meetings of the Plant Level Consultative Committees (PLCC) to promote the development of downstream and ancillary units around their project site.
"While many industries are holding PLCC meetings on a regular basis, there are some industries which are not showing any interest in holding these meetings. The PLCC meetings should be held at least once in a quarter to provide a forum to the MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) to hold interactions with the large industries”, said state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Underscoring the need for rapid industrial growth to enhance the per capita income of the people of the state, he said, “There is a need for the industries to be more closely involved with the state government in skill development of the locals so that they can be employed in their projects. I am glad to note that 20 industries have already signed MoUs (Memoranda of Understanding) with the state government for setting up of Industrial Training Centres (ITCs).”
Patnaik was speaking at a conference on 'Seven Needs of Industries' , organized by the Orissa chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Speaking on the occasion, Raghunath Mohanty, the state industries minister said, “Orissa has emerged as one of the most attractive destinations for industries across sectors. The state government is determined to meet all the needs of the industries.”
Saurabh Garg, the state industries secretary said, “There needs to be mutual trust between the state government and the industries. The problems faced by the industries should be jointly solved by both the government and industries.”
Garg stressed on promotion of MSME enterprises in the state for ancillary products and better focus on vendor development as well as having long-term CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) plans by the industries for the areas surrounding the units as well as elsewhere in the state.
R K Jena, chairman of CII-Orissa and M B S Nair, chairman of CII-North Orissa Zonal Council also spoke on the occasion.
