Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated the Odisha State Maritime Museum at Cuttack spread over about five acres of land. He also laid the foundation stone for setting up an aquarium in the museum premises.

The state government has created a corpus fund of Rs 12 crore for the management of the maritime museum and Rs 2.05 crore has also been earmarked in 2013-14 for setting up the aquarium.

The museum has been designed after renovating the British-era Maritime Engineering Workshop established in 1869. The museum houses 11 galleries depicting maritime history and boat building.
