The Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik today urged the Union government for allocation of the entire 1320 Mw power to be generated from the proposed expansion units of Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) of NTPC to Orissa. Patnaik also desired that the state quota from the stage-II of Talcher Super Thermal Power Station, Kaniha (which is now being made available to the state in the ratio of 10 percent) should be enhanced to 30 percent like the stage-I of Talcher Super Thermal Power Station.
He also requested the Centre to consider allocating power to Orissa out of the reserved quota of 15 percent of the installed capacity of Central Generating Stations, Eastern Region, aggregating to 894 MW. During his meeting with Shushil Kumar Shinde, Union minister for power in New Delhi today, the chief minister elaborated that the rapid industrialization and massive rural electrification in the state coupled with an erratic monsoon have created power deficit since 2008-09.
