The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (Cidco) 2005, report on Navi Mumbai's socio-economic survey has put Navi Mumbai above Mumbai in terms of monthly income per family. |
Among the different nodes of the Navi Mumbai, Vashi topped the list in this category. |
The survey was conducted by Pune-based Kirloskar Consultants. The report studied various ascepts such as population, economic strata, earning capacities and buying power of the people. The survey was conducted in two phases. |
According to the report, the average monthly income in Navi Mumbai is Rs 12,691 which is higher than that of Mumbai. The fully developed Vashi node topped with average family income of Rs 15,709. |
It says that 97 per cent of families own TVs, 74 per cent have refrigerators, 58 per cent have landline phones and mobile phones, 35 per cent have air-conditioners and computers have made its entry into 10 per cent of the households. |
The first phase of the survey was conducted between February and May 2005 which covered the total housing stock in Navi Mumbai. This included houses constructed by both Cidco and private builders, area of houses and income group-wise classification. |
The second phase, which spanned between June 2005 and January 2006, took care of the socio-economic profile of the population in planned nodes as well as development results of planning of last 35 years in Navi Mumbai. |
Navi Mumbaikars, 49 per cent of them have their own vehicles. Among them 10 per cent own cars and 29 per cent have two-wheelers. Average family spending per month is Rs 8,357 wheras the average per capita income has increased from Rs 2,498 (as reported in the last survey of 2000) to Rs 3,340 in 2005-06. |
According to the survey report, the last decade has a population increase of 74 per cent. Literacy rate has touched 98 per cent. |
The survey was conducted in Vashi, Nerul, Ghansoli, Airoli, Koperkhairane, Jui Kamothe, Dronagiri, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel and Sanpada. The last survey was done in 2000 by Tata Institute of Social Sciences. |
