The Janata Dal (United), an ally of the National Democratic Alliance today staged a two-hour dharna here against the ruling BJP government’s alleged involvement in land scams in Karnataka and also aga-inst the UPA government over price rise.
Launching the dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue, JD(U) state unit president M P Nadagouda hit out at the B S Yeddyurappa-led government for its ‘involvement’ in a series of land scams which he said, “has brought to the fore corruption that has seeped into every sphere in the state”.
Terming the judicial probe ordered by the government into the land scams as the ‘biggest farce’ and an ‘eyewash’, he said such probes in the past had never yiel-ded any results. Taking a swipe at BJP for demanding resignations of ministers for their alleged involvement in various scams, including CWG and the 2G Spectrum and “now removal of CVC”, Nadagouda sought to know how the party could ask |for it “when their own government in the state has ear-ned the tag of the most corrupt government”.
He also slammed the BJP government for its “anti-farmer” policies which he alleged had led to debt-ridden farmers selling their farming equipment. Flaying the UPA government for “keeping its eyes closed over widespread corruption in its own government”, he alleged that its anti-people policies, including rise in prices of essential commodities had hit the common man the hardest.
The BJP has kept Karnataka out of its nationwide protest against the UPA government being staged today in the wake of the party government facing a spate of corruption charges.
